bought this for our two dogs: a 17-pound shih Tzu/dachshund mix and a 55-pound Australian Shepard/Catahoula mix. took my girls all of about two tries before they found out where the boundary was. two of my neighbors bought the same system which is pretty cool cause when we have block parties we can bring our dogs and not worry about them wondering off.the only thing i will say, is UPGRADE THE WIRE. i am telling you, if you do this right off the bat you’re gonna be SOOOOO much happier. the wire that is provided is super thin and easily breaks. save yourself the trouble and just upgrade right away. after burying the wire around the ENTIRE property (we live on a 1/2 acre), within a month the wire got snapped by some critter digging under the fence. SO we had to dig the wire back up (after trying to find where the break was) and just decided then to upgrade the wire. i bought upgraded wire from lowes for $40 (we needed 1 1/2 rolls). it’s going on about a year now and the upgraded wire has lasted a LOT better than the provided wire ever would have.

Love my fence! Allows my pet to roam and I feel safe knowing she is protected.

This was a great solution for a difficult yard shape. This fence cost me less than one 6 ft. fence panel would’ve cost, so that’s why I took a chance on it. I’m so glad I did!!Installation: so easy, a cave man could do it! In seriousness, though, I used a sidewalk edger attachment on my weed eater, and cut a trench in the shape I needed. That allowed me to put the wire about 3-4 inches underground. You can do this in any shape you want, and you can even cordon off areas internal to the yard (like a flower bed or bird feeder, or whatever). All you need to do, then, is twist the wire together to cancel the signal on that part. The instructions are well-written about how to do this; again, just make sure you plan before you start digging and layer wire. Then, I just got a few bags of dirt and grass seed to cover up the trench. 3 months later, and I can’t tell I even installed it!A few tips: make sure you plan ahead where you’ll plug in the all unit because the wire has to start and end at that wall plug. Plan ahead to save yourself more work later. Tip #2, don’t make sharp corners, or the signal will cancel out. Make an arc, not a 90 degree corner.Functionality: You can set the perimeter from about one foot to 10 feet. I have a small yard, so I set it to the lowest setting possible (about 2 ft., otherwise the signal cancels out on the corners). You can set this to 5 settings from audible warning only to major zapping. (It’s not that big of a zap; my kids tested it at the highest setting in their hands, and really it just startles you. It’s not painful, so don’t worry that you’re hurting your dog. It’s minor! But, it still works!!)My dog learned this area very quickly. Put the little white flags up for a few weeks so the dog has a visual association with the sound and, if the dog gets too close, the “shock”. Within a day, she would not go anywhere near the border. As soon as she hears the audible warning, she backs up slowly. I was amazed at how fast she learned the border. Now, this could be dog-dependent, but my dog learned right away.So far, so good. I could not be happier with this product. I also have enough wire to re-do the fence probably 3 times (again, I have a pretty small backyard area), so I didn’t upgrade to a thicker gauge wire.

We bought this system to use on our farm with our two younger dogs. They were constantly getting into things, chasing chickens and ducks and needed to be supervised to keep them where we wanted them. We wanted them to be able to have freedom, but not get into trouble. It took one time of getting corrected and they learned. They don’t try the fence at all. Once they hear the warning beep, they turn right around. This has allowed us to give them a big area to roam around in and we never have to worry about them. They are so happy now. The only things we don’t love: the system can cover a large area, but you will need to purchase additional wire to do that. Also, we had the longer prongs on one of our dogs, and it caused a lot of skin irritation. We switched to the shorter prongs and had no problems.

The product arrived as promised. We installed it with the wire above ground so we could test it. Once we were confident that it was working, we buried the wire in places where it could be damaged. The process to bury it was simple if a bit tedious. We pushed a flat edged shovel into the ground and then just pushed the wire into the sliced ground with our hands. In the two months since it was installed, the wire stayed put and was never damaged by lawnmowers or other vehicles. In order to complete a circle around about 3/4 acre, we needed to use additional wire.Initially, we did not twist the wire tightly enough to keep it from shocking near the control box, once we figured that out and got the wire near the back door high enough so it would not shock the dog when he came to the door, the system was completed operational. That was the easy part. Training our three year old rescued border collie took a bit of patience. He was new to us so part of the challenge was simply that we were figuring out how he learned while trying to train him to use the fence. It took 3-4 weeks to get to the point where we were confident that he would not run right through it. Part of the issue was that I was hesitant to turn up the shock to a higher level. Once I did, it was much easier to get his attention. It does take consistency and patience. We kept walking him around the perimeter and showing him where it was safe to play. In the end, he loves to go out and explore in the yard. This was a great solution. We wanted to fence a large area and cross the lawn. There was not a good option for a physical fence as we need to be able to drive to the back field periodically and needed to and cross the lawn. This fence worked perfectly.

I installed this system, but upgraded to 14 gauge wire. It’s awesome. Our dog ran away on a regular basis and rolled in dead things or excrement. I put this fence in 2 months ago, did some training, and smell of death/poo has not returned. The dog seems to understand the boundaries, and enjoys playing inside her confined zone. Excellent!I used a flat edge shovel to bury the cable. Not for the faint of heart.

  10. F1

Great fence at a low price, although we did not use the wire that came with it. We purchased 16 gauge wire since we have it around 4 acres and thought the reception would be better. We purchased a hedgehog trencher (also inexpensive), which dug a neat little trench through our yard and wooded areas. Our son was determined to bury the fence! Just make sure you purchase extra blades for the trencher. He went through three of them. Our very active outside dog is now free to roam!

This saved our lives. We were using a tie out on our 8 month old foxhound until we could decide if we should get an inground wired fence, a wireless fence, or a real fence for our property. We weren’t fans of the idea of shocking our pup. But boy does it work. My husband tested the collar on himself first, it’s more of the static shock you get if you touch a metal object after shiffling your feet on thr floor. The device has adjustable settings. Which is great! Our pup has been using the fence for about a week and she is learning quick! Make sure you watch some videos on youtube on how to train your dog, they definitly help

It actually works! My son rescued a part Lab part Boxer pup after his mom was ran over at my son’s school. Soon, he outgrew the garage and was living outside. Then he got old enough to start wandering into the neighbor’s yard and the search was on to contain him. I had looked at these type setups because I don’t like fences or leashes. I want him to be able to run and play. This was the cheapest head unit I could find, but it appeared to be the same as the more expensive models, so I got it and upgraded the cable to this: http://www..com/1000ft-14AWG-Professional-Grade-Dog/dp/B00CA5KV0W?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 and it was worth it. My son just hit part of the wire with the weed eater last Saturday and it put some scratches on the insulation but it was fine! We manually buried 800+ feet of the cable one weekend and bought a pack of white pin flags since there were not enough provided. That was about an acre. We came back toward the house and went around the pool but made it where he can still get up on the deck. I hooked up the unit and tested it and it was pretty easy. Read the instructions. One complaint I have is the clamps used to hold the wire in the unit are weak and do not hold the heavier guage wire as well as I would like. This lab pup is crazy and had been used to running wherever he wanted for many weeks, so I was skeptical. But the kids and my wife were consistent to let him out of his pen and train him what would happen if the boundary was approached. It took several days because he was used to running all over the place. And we had to adjust the width of the boundary and up the level of the collar once. But, I have to say that I am well pleased. He knows he can’t follow us or other animals out of bounds. But he enjoys his 1 acre to play be a dog and my front yard and landscaping arent being destroyed. Win Win.

This was just barely enough to get around my entire property perimeter. My 75 pound golden retriever seems to respond well on a 2 or 3 setting. I am using this product to save my wood fence that my dog was attacking due to some annoying little yapper dogs next door. I was replacing fence boards left and right. This has also slowed down the barking at the neighbors dogs as the barking and attacking of the fence were associated actions! Easy to install!

    Love this fence

WORKS GRET HOOKED IT UP THRIUGH MY FENCE LINE AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT

  17. Bill Gardner

My Jack Russell doesn’t even need the fence now that he has learned his boundries! He will react to the buzz buzz sound if we make it and will move away from the area. Compared to installing a fence to keep him in, this is a great price!

This works great. I have a pit who liked to jump the fence. She no longer does. I ran the wire on top and along the bottom of a 4ft chain link fence and had no problems with the signal working. The wire got broke a couple of times. But I simply repaired with electrical tape. The wire it comes with is a bit small but still works. I keep the collar on my dog all the time and so far the battery is still good. It states that the battery only wears down with constant shock. But she only gets shocked when she gets too close to the fence (about 2-3 ft). You can also adjust the shock level according to the size of your dog. I love it and would totally recommend this.

I installed my first electric fence six years ago. The collars of that first set failed after 5 years and were no longer produced. I had to buy the next model that would work with my original transmitter. These collars went yhrough the batteries in a quarter of the time and then started shocking my dogs even though they were not near the fence, just sitting by my side. , yes the same mfg of this set, replaced these collars without question, but when the new replacements did the same thing I had enough. This model of collar is poorly designed, IMO. I purchased this kit for the cost of two if those collars. I was able to use the fence I already had and installed this transmitter in a matter of minutes. The new collars have worked without issue since. Time will tell if they will last as long as the original, which I still would rate highly. The only reason I stayed with the brand is because they have always stood behind thier products, they just produced a bad model and I was not going to keep replacing collars only to have my dogs shocked errently again. It took a lot for me to install the fence originally but quickly realized how much safer my dogs were once installed and the dogs were trained.

This is a great inground fence to keep my dogs of the new lawn. Will be extending the no limit boundary to keep them of my garden also.

  21. Virginia Custer

It works! Was a lot of hard work to install. The installation tutorial was good info. Using a flat head spade shovel saves a lot of time. You don’t need to bury it 6 inches. We bought 2 extra spools of wire making the distance 1,500 feet. After twisting up some to cancel the signal near the house we ended up with approx a 1,300 loop. The dog has learned to boundary and is staying inside. She runs a lot and it is working great. Took level 3 (out of 5 levels, 5 being the highest) for the dog to respond. I let it shock my hand to test it and it’s a little startling but it’s not bad. Plus the dogs skin and fur is thick. I highly recommend this product. Way way less cost and labor as compared to a fence. And fences are ugly.

Easy to install on a pre-existing fence. Works great.

  24. Dani Anderson

Works fine with existing wiring. My beast needed a few reminders that the fence was working again, but all is good now. Product was delivered quickly and in good condition.

No more digging under the fence!!!

  26. carlee griessmann

Easy to install and set up!I have had this for 3 months with no issues. We no longer have the flags out and it still keeps the dogs in the yard. They know exactly where that fence is. Great product!

Long story short: we had the expensive brand in ground fence for our two little dogs. One of the collars went bad. We got this whole system for less than the cost of one new collar. And more importantly, we are in control of the settings. No more expense service calls just to change the settings on the collar or the strength (width) of the radio field. I was able to install this using the same wire already in the ground. It works just fine. We set the callers to beep only and that’s enough for out little guys. And it appears that the battery life and replacement cost will be much better too.

We have 2, very large dogs (Golden Danes). The installation of this fence was very tedious, but worth it. The instructions were easy to follow and when we used it with the dogs, they immediately understood what was happening. One of the things I really appreciated was the care the instructions had for our animals. They very clearly state how to safely warm your pet into an electric fence. The instructions often reminded me of how to take it carefully, not to do actual harm to my dogs.Thank you!

  29. Michele

had it for 6 months it keeps my dog in yard . don’t have any complaints it beats paying 1600.00 to 2000.00 for a dog fence company to do the job. I had to rent a wire burying trencher and bought 1000′ of 14 awg wire. Maybe overkill on wire size but I don’t want to have to fix the system when the cheap wire gets broken. even if the power supply fails prematurely I just have to buy another one of any brand I would recommend the DIY to install does take quite a bit hard work to get it done but worth it. You could use a shovel but I buried 800′ of wire.

I put this unit in about a month ago. It has worked perfectly for my dog. We live on a country road on a small farm. I wanted to run an invisible fence along the road side allowing my new dog to run freely behind it, but stay safe from the traffic. It works great. Just ran a narrow loop along road back to the transmitter. It was a pretty long distance requiring an extra spool of wire to complete. This unit energized the circuit just fine. I considered a wireless unit, but felt underground fence worked better for my needs.

  31. Bryan Rosa

Love it! Love it Love it! This is our second system that we have installed ourselves. One on the mainland on our lakefront home. We were able to use a lawn edger to dig into the dirt and string the wire underground. We then took the wire out into the lake. We weighted it and dropped it into the water. We had to keep it away from the dock so that our dogs could join us on the dock and deep enough so that they could swim out to retrieve a tennis ball. Works perfect for over ten years. We recently placed this same fence at our second home on over an acre, in the jungle in Hawaii. A lawn edger is not an option because we live on lava. We had to place the wire on top of the ground and lava. We used the sod staples where we could, and rocks to secure the wire. It will work its way into the ground as the jungle grass grows over it.We have worked with coustomer service for over ten years. I can always count on them to be so helpful. has sold many containment and bark systems to our friends and family when they see and hear about our success with this product.Whenever we are looking for bark control or pet containment issues, we recommend to all of our friends to use brand everything.I do wish that could come up wit a system that would keep wild pigs OUT of our Hawaii property. They are murder on our lawn 🙂

  32. CRAIG MUROBAYASHI

It works. My dog was jumping up over my brand new fence, at the high point of 7ft! Amazing to say the least, we couldn’t keep her in the yard, tried several other options but nothing would do it. This was my last resort, and by god it worked the 1st day.I tested on my arm up to a level 3 and deemed that to be enough shock to startle me, so 3 is what the dog gets. Hadn’t had to got to level 4 yet.Worth it! And read the instructions. Twisting of the wire is great to make the Hotwire deactivated. Drill came in hand for that.

  33. r_m_b

Installion was easy, dog training different story. Our dog kept running through the fence, then we bumped up the Shock of collar! Now our dog knows his boundary. Yes I recommend thus product

  34. Eden D.

Great fence. I no longer have to worry about my dogs.

  35. Mirabelle

I bought another brand that was only slightly cheaper and bought this one when it failed. The other had no consistency and I was not even comfortable enough to put it on my dog. I should have done it right the first time. This unit made it easy as far as invisible fences go and worked great. I have a mild mannered, 70 pound Lab-Bernese Mountain Dog and it was a only a few days of training for him to get the idea. I did about 2 acres myself. I used a handheld edger and my back to bury the wire and it was simple. I worked at a leisurely pace and it took me a weekend. I did have two 500 ft spools of fence, and did not use the one that came with but it is the same, different length. Good product, I found on here after recommendations from friends.

  36. J-PRO

Awesome! My 4 year old black lab learned quick! Within a week he knew his zone well enough to watch a gate open and not try to bolt like usual! No more digging under fence either!!!

  37. AL

Keeps my little terrier in the yard. He is a fence digger, and this keeps him off the fence. I don’t always use it, and wondered how well it really worked. The other day there were some pit bulls running my fence line, and my dog was running back and forth along the fence with them. Fearing for his safety, I turned the fence on. My dog headed straight to the middle of the property and away from the fence. Other dogs went away once they realized they could not get to him, and all was right in the world again.

  38. vanessa cattaneo

Great dog fence and easy to install. I would recommend landscape staples when laying out and let ground cover naturally bury.

  39. Julian Tours

works great as replacement for 15 yr old fence

  40. Kari Marks

replaced Invisible Fence with this transmitter.. just put wires into appropriate spots and it works perfect!

  41. jacob

    Love the fence

  42. jessica D.

We bought this as a replacement to another system that was complete garbage (Friendly Pet Products Wireless Fence). We connected the System to the wire that we ran for the old system, and it immediately worked 100% better. We’ve had the System for over a month and it has worked like a charm. One of the unexpected improvements from the old system is that we no longer have to turn the collars on and off when we let the dogs inside.

  43. Chris

I got a puppy to replace a dog who died of old age and for company for our other dog. This created a fence problem. The new dog we got is a rescue doxie, and a digger. We have coyotes, so we had to do something other than tie him up each day. Our 2nd dog was forever going down into the hill and canyon area we live on. She was always covered in stickers and would go out and bark incessantly where we could not reach her whenever it was dark, night and day. But she never tried to dig out from the parameter fence.I was a nervous wreck trying this method. I installed it myself and it was not easy. The twisted wire thing is totally confusing. I could find zero good videos or direction on how to make that work. My handyman neighbor even came over to help me and he could not figure out. And he is fixing genius. So I ended up just running the wire under the eves on the side of the house I needed this fence to not shock. I am just running a basic square around my backyard property. Once I had it set up. I spent a week following the training and the dogs did not get it at all. They thought it was playtime, they grabbed and ran with the flags and it was stupid and frustrating. I finally decided to just turn the fence on. I had bought an extra collar, and one dog got shocked and the other one was not getting anything. I thought the numbers on the main controller were the shock settings , but I finally read the shock collar directions and found out that is the distance it will activate. Each collar has a button the goes from 1 blink to 5 blinks and that is the shock settings. Don’t be lame like me. Read the directions first. Once I got that right it all started working. When I bought this system, I was scared. I did not want to hurt the dogs and I was upset while deciding to use this system but there is no way to build a fence like this one on the kind of property we have. Once I got it all figured out correctly it has been working exactly like I hoped. My older dog, a cocker, who runs away when she smells something, and is very bad with that, got shocked about 4 times in two days and is not doing it now. She is running right up to the shock line and stopping. Much to my utter amazement and the cats! Who are learning to sit right outside the line, which has been quite amusing. The new dog only needed two shocks. The first day he ran back in the house and did not want to go outside but the next morning he was back to himself and he has run through the parameter once and cried to get back in.It has only been 8 days since I turned on the fence, but I am truly amazed and happy with it. My animals have a large safe play space, and my older barking dog is not covered with stickers from running down the hill into the canyon area, and learning to control herself with the barking and craziness we have had for years with her. (Yes we took her to classes and training. When she smells all the wildlife in our backyard she goes nuts). That was a side benefit I did not even think of when I bought this. I am hoping after a few months I can turn the collars way down. I have them both set on 4. We tried the lowest setting and worked our way up and they both ran through the boundaries at 3 or lower. I also shocked myself on the 4 setting on accident, and I can tell you, it is the same strength as when you plug in a bad plug or outlet and get shocked. The thing to keep in mind, is the dogs do not get shocked all the time once they figure it out. Which only takes a few shocks. So it sounds worse than it really is to use a “shock or electric wired system”. One final thing, this one I bought is half the price you will find of other systems, which do the same thing. This is a basic version I guess but I could not see the difference between the 180-299 one, (pet store price is 299) one and the 130 dollar one. I bought extra wire, which I did not need, but I am still glad to have it in case I have to replace wire at some point.Update: It has been over 6 months now and we love love love this system. I wish I bought this years ago. The dogs NEVER cross the shock lines, even when we have the collars off now after a bath. I am truly impressed and amazed at well this worked out. It solved all kind of problems I have been having for years.
